Another Sydney Supanova Pop Culture Convention done and dusted! I am so happy I was able to finish all my work before spending my Saturday taking hundreds of photos of people dressed in costume. This is actually where I started a few years ago. Taking photos on automatic using a very basic DSLR and kit lens. I found this environment, taking portraits of people in costume, was the best learning experience for me. The cosplayers generally appreciate having a nice photo taken of their costumes and there is no pressure to deliver an amazing shot at a convention as you are not being paid for it. We basically all come together because we share a mutual passion!
I'm not 100% on the watermark in these images as I don't like watermarks in general (if people are going to steal your photos on the internet it's going to happen even with a watermark) as I find them distracting. But when I take cosplay photos they tend to get shared around a lot, and to make it easier for people to find my work, I find it's best just to place a small watermark in the corner.
These are some of my favourite shots I took last weekend. You can see the whole album here on my Facebook page. I am so thankful for all the weddings I've done in the last few years. I took just under 500 photos on Saturday, had those culled and edited within 1 day! #proworkflow

When people ask me why my boyfriend and I love cosplay, these two images above pretty much sum it up for us. Dan in his Spider-Man suit, making a kids day! I appreciate and love sharing a fandom with someone, and to see their passion and skill on display in the form of a costume has always made me excited. It's why in the beginning I wanted to get better at photography, because I wanted to take better photos for these people in their costumes. But it's also because of the kids. There are so many children and families at these conventions, and they always get excited and happy when they see one of their favourite characters from a movie/TV show/game walking around! This makes it all worth while for us, especially Dan who is the costumer in this relationship.

And finally the last photo. We were meant to go to the last day of Supanova on the Sunday, but we had torrential rain and wind. We packed for the day, Dan got dressed up in a Warhammer 40k costume and we got 10 minutes down the road before the rain became heavier... so we made a last minute executive decision to turn back and go home! It is a shame we didn't make it but I am happy I made the most of Saturday and got lots of photos.
I hope to make it to more local conventions this year, and we are planning to go to more interstate conventions next year as we have never traveled for a convention before.
